Day 83 Thursday 7th September
We had an
easy drive today to Bundaberg. We set up before lunch, did a little bit of
washing and then headed to the information centre. We met a very helpful lady
who suggested quite a few things we could see and do during our 2 day
stay. We drove to a great lookout that
was on what was once a volcano. It gave us a magnificent view of Bundaberg, the
nearby beaches and cane and agricultural areas. From here we drove out to the
beach area. We both clearly remembered seeing the turtles coming into shore to
lay their eggs in the sands at Mon Repos on our last visit here 23 years ago
but on this trip we were too early. The turtles don’t come in until November. Our
next drive was down to Burnett Heads marina and wharfs. We saw some very
impressive boats in the marina and at the wharfs we saw the decommissioned
naval ship “Tobruk”. It was waiting to be cleaned out and opened up, ready to
become an artificial reef and diving site off the coast of Bundaberg.
