Day 78 Saturday 2nd September
We decided
to visit Hay Point which is an easy drive from Sarina. The Port of Hay Point is
one of the largest coal export ports in the world. We were able to view it from
a lookout and it was huge! Obviously, Australia is still mining a lot of coal
and exporting to overseas, countries. We saw a many, many carriages of coal
being trained into the port. I counted 126 carriages of coal on one train. We
also went to another lookout about 20kms away where we saw a large train engine
and maintenance area. It was huge! We thought that with the coal loading
facility, the train and engine maintenance area and the sugar cane industry
there seems to be plenty of employment opportunities in this area. We returned
back to the van for lunch and around this time Rick and Kerry arrived with
their friends to stay at the park. We caught up with them and then I did an
interesting walk around the cemetery. One horrible thing that I found out about
during this walk was the murder of a woman and 5 of her children here, in 1911.
