Day 91 Friday 15th September
Another reasonably short drive of 200kms or so
brought us to the black opal mining town of Lightning Ridge. We have decided to
stay here for 3 nights as there seems to be quite a bit to see in this very
interesting town. There are several “car door” explorer tours that you can do
around the town. The tours are marked by coloured car doors. We did the “yellow
car door” tour which took us on a tour through the opal fields. We also visited
a huge metal emu made from a variety of metal things including some VW beetle
cars. Back at the caravan park, we enjoyed bush poetry and comedy from some
very talented ladies, in the camp pavilion for happy hour.
