Day 51 Sunday 6th August
Today it was
my turn to do the red-claw run in the boat with Rob and Rick. Rick has 8 nets
spread around different spots in the dam. Rick drives the boat and Rob
(normally Kerry) hauls the net in with a long stick. The catch is then taken
out and the bait (dog food, pumpkin, potato, orange) is put in the net and the
net returned to the water. We were back in by 8.45am and the catch was quite
small so we didn’t have lots of work. Kerry showed me how to clean the
red-claws tubes out and after they had been cooked, how to take their shells
off. We went for a short drive to help charge the car battery and revisited the
lookout and I could see all the places I had kayaked to over the past few days.
In the afternoon we thought we were hearing things when we heard the music of a
soft-serve ice-cream van but we were not mistaken. Here in the middle of
nowhere a van was doing the rounds of the campers. Of course we all had to have
an ice-cream! He and his wife were certainly doing a good trade! Later in the
afternoon I ventured out for a kayak once again to see if I could spot some
more crocodiles. By the time I got back, the footy had started….poor Rob was
the only Crows supporter and the other 5 watching were Port supporters. They
were all gathered around Rick and Kerry’s TV which had been set up outside.
Kerry and I decided we didn’t need to watch the match so after my shower we
watched a lovely movie “The 100 Foot Journey”. At half time in the footy, Rob
brought us some delicious pizza slices! Robs golf mate, his wife and their
friends are expert pizza makers and made pizzas for the whole group in their
Webber. The footy watching continued after the pizza feast and the result was 1
happy Crows supporter and 5 very disappointed Port supporters!
