Day 50 Saturday 5th August
Rob, Rick
and Antoinette went out to check the red-claw nets today and as it was a little
on the cool side, I stayed warm in bed and read till about 8.30am. While the
red-claw catch was being dealt with, I did a little bit of baking. Around lunchtime
2 new cars and vans came into the area where we are camped looking for a spot
to set up in. When one of the fellows got out of his car I instantly recognised
him as being a good friend of Robs from the golf club. It was such a surprise!
We knew he and his wife were travelling but had no idea they were heading this
way. There would be well over 100 caravans spread around different areas here
at Corella Dam so it was an incredible chance that they just happened to come
in here. We helped them find a spot to set up and invited them to join us later
for happy hour around the camp-fire. By the afternoon the water looked
magnificent. Not a breath of wind. I decided I would take the kayak out and see
if I could find more crocodiles. Well I was in luck. I felt like the wild-life
warrior! I would have spotted at least 12 with their snouts and eyes showing
just above the water. I also saw some Jabiru birds, a turtle falling off a rock
into the water and a camel. The camel was in a peculiar place looking for food
and the nearby cattle seemed a little startled by the camel. It was a wonderful
way to finish the day!
