Day 49 Friday 4th August
Rob and Rick
went out to check the red-claw nets around 8am and I followed them a little
later in the kayak. It was a lovely, still morning and I was determined to
check out the farthest end of the dam. It was quite a long kayak but very
relaxing. I stopped numerous times to watch bird-life and the antics of the
cattle grazing at the edge of the dam. I enjoyed every minute of it but was a
little sadden to see 2 dead turtles floating in the dam in one spot. I had seen
numerous turtles poking their smiling faces up out of the water as I kayaked
along. I returned to the camp over 2 hours later and the red-claw catch had
been dealt with. The boys had gone off looking for more firewood for the
night’s camp-fire. I had a beautiful, warm shower thanks to Rick and Kerry’s
shower pump and tent. We are conserving drinking water while we’re out here so
we use the dam water for all washing. We had a relaxing afternoon around the
camp and another lovely evening around the camp-fire, and the boys watched the
footy on Ricks TV. Rob served up pancakes, strawberries and ice-cream for
supper for everyone.
