Day 47 Wednesday 2nd August
Rick and Rob
were up early and were heading out on the dam to check the “red claw” nets. It
was a lovely, still morning so I headed out in the kayak at the same time. It
was beautiful. I enjoyed the watching the variety of birds and kayaked to the
dam wall and water tower. I heard what I thought was a motor-bike and all the
cattle started running towards the same area. They obviously thought they were
being rounded up but the vehicle making the noise was actually a police dune
buggy that seemed to be patrolling around the perimeter of the dam. The police
then went back to where the caravanners and campers were too. I’d never seen a
police vehicle like it. Rob and Rick got a reasonable catch of red claw, reset
the nets and returned to the shore. I stayed out for over 2 hours because it
was so peaceful. Back at camp Kerry and the boys dealt with the red claw, while
Martin and Antoinette were doing a “supply run” into Mt Isa. We put our orders
in and they were off. We had a lazy afternoon around the camp and then all
joined together again for happy-hour and dinner around the camp-fire.
