Day 46 Tuesday 1st August
We said
goodbye to Mt Isa and the very helpful owners of the Sunset Caravan Park. It
was fairly late in the morning as we didn’t have far to travel to meet up with
Rick and Kerry. As we arrived at Corella
Dam we had a call from our new friends, Martin and Antoinette. We had met them
at Gregory and later at Lawn Hill National Park and they too were heading to
Corella Dam. Rick had saved us some good sites and we quickly settled in. Corella
Dam is beautiful. It was once the water-supply for the uranium mining town of
Mary Kathleen but is not used anymore. The dam wall has a crack in it and so
the water-level of the dam has dropped to below the crack. It is a huge expanse
of fresh water, full of wild-life and many people stop here to catch red-claw,
kayak or explore in a small boat and observe the wild-life. We relaxed in the
afternoon and Rick and Kerry took us all on a drive including a lookout so we
could see how large the dam is. We all spent the night around the fire,
enjoying a few drinks and the great company.
