Day 37 Sunday 23rd July
We had a bit
of a sleep-in after our big night out but later in the morning went to the Mt
Isa Outback experience and fish hatchery at the Tourist Information Centre.
Again it was extremely interesting and informative, telling us about the history
of the Mt Isa mine (copper, silver, lead, zinc) and the growth of the town.
Outside of the centre there was a lovely botanic garden filled with native
plants from the area. This had a man-made waterfall and creek running through
the centre of the garden and was very pretty. Just beyond this was a building
that contained the fish hatchery. The native fish are bred here to be put into
the local waterways to replenish the stocks. We returned to the van for some
lunch and then started to do a few jobs around the place to prepare for our
camping expedition over the next few days. We spent the late afternoon with
Rick and Kerry and 2 other travelling couples having a happy hour and
discussing our travels.
still cold and wet down here
