Day 33 Wednesday 19th July
Leaving
Winton before 9am, we made steady progress today but couldn’t go too quick due
to the road. In most places it was only wide enough for one vehicle so if you
encountered anything coming the other way you would both need to pull off to
the side to pass each other. The triple trailer semis’ were an exception to
this rule as they just took the whole of the road while the traffic moved right
over to let them pass. We weren’t going to argue with them. We stopped in to
the tiny town of Middleton that only has a pub and a population of 3…It was a
typical old Australian pub and was there because it was once a Cobb and Co
stop. We opted for coffee and met some fellow travellers who had also called in
just to check it out. Continuing on, the scenery was often all the same but
every now and then we would get more of these “jump ups” and at one spot we
walked up to a lookout to check them out. We arrived in Boulia, set up and
headed down to the tourist information centre. They had a very good sound and
light presentation all about the “Min Min”, the strange lights that have been
reported in this area on numerous occasions aver the past 150 years or so.
