Day 20 Thursday 6th July
After doing
some shopping in Blackall we departed heading for Lara Wetlands, where we would
once again catch up with Rick and Kerry. It was only about 90kms. from
Blackall. We had to leave the main road and travel about 10kms. on dirt to get
to Lara Wetlands Camping area but it was well worth it. Lara wetlands is
situated on a cattle station and the sites here are beautiful. We set up next
to Rick and Kerry’s van and have the outlook of a small lake and wetlands.
Toilets and showers are provided here as is plenty of good water but no power.
The area has a huge children’s playground, camp kitchen, cool swimming hole and
a lovely hot artesian pool. Rob and I went for a soak in the artesian pool and
it certainly was warm. I really had no excuse not to use the kayak in the small
lake as it was at last warm and we had safe water. I paddled around for about
45 minutes, observing bird-life and trying to avoid the trees. During the late
afternoon the clouds started to build and the rain started coming down. We are
looking forward to a tour of the station homestead tomorrow.
