Day 6 Thursday 22nd June
A short trip
today to the historic town of Wentworth where the Murray and Darling Rivers
join to become the mighty Murray. It’s about 60 kilometres from Mildura. We had
a little bit of drama on the way with our caravan hitch because there was some
movement in the hitch. Rob had to remove the torsion bars and this seemed to
fix the issue but he will need to keep an eye on things. Our caravan park in
Wentworth is located on the banks of the Darling River and we once again have
lovely river views from our site. There is a large gum tree in the park that is
labelled Captain Sturts tree because it is close to where Sturt anchored his
whaleboat and hoisted the flag to celebrate the discovery of the junction of
the rivers. We went for a drive and visited a spot on the river where you can
see the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers. We also visited the
Historic Wentworth Gaol and fun with some of the artefacts there. Later we went
for a beautiful walk on an island called Junction Island which took you right
out to a point where the rivers join. Rob dropped me off back in town and I
went on an interesting historical walk through the town. We have settled in for
the night and Rob is very pleased because he will be able to watch the footy on
TV and see the Crows play.
