Day 1 Saturday 17th June
Here we go again! We set off a little later than usual as
the previous night I had been out to dinner and had a rather late night. It
didn’t matter as we are in no hurry and not on a tight schedule or anything
like that. We had an uneventful trip calling in at Truro for Rob so he could
have the obligatory morning tea pasty from the famous bakery. We stopped at
Renmark for lunch and then drove to our first overnight stop, a magnificent
free-camping spot on the banks of the River Murray near Lock 9. We took a
gravel road for about 9 kilometres before coming to the river. This site was
listed on Wiki Camps and apparently it can be a little hard to get to during
wet weather. Luckily, despite it being Winter, there has been little rain here
and everything is fine. We set up with a most magnificent view across the
river, surrounded by beautiful gum trees, making sure we didn’t park the van
under any though. Rob was busy to start with as he was setting up the satellite
dish for the TV so I would be able to watch the Netball Super League Grand final
tonight….isn’t he lovely. We went for a relaxing walk along the river and
collected wood for a fire. There are a few other campers along the river this
area but there are so many spots to choose from that we are all spread out over
several kilometres. We are about 60 kilometres from Mildura and will heading
there tomorrow.
